Winter is taking as long to come to Atlantic Canada as summer did. All the leaves may be brown but they are still hanging on to the trees around Halifax. The realization that sailing is over and done is nonetheless inescapable. The sun is gone before I can leave work and I’ve got the boat under a beauty canvas cover that I picked up last month from Don Williams and Doug Matthews.
Under such circumstances, sailors thoughts inevitably turn to bureaucracy and the Atlantic J29 Class is no exception. Andrew Childs has been in touch and he has cued up the 2011 J29 Fall AGM for Saturday, November 26th, 1 pm upstairs at the RNSYS Clubhouse. Andrew and co-Pres Evan Petley-Jones say they will circulate an agenda before the meeting. Like good democrats they are inviting class members who would like to add an agenda item to contact them in advance and are willing to make arrangements for anyone who wishes to call in for the meeting with at least one week’s notice to allow them to make arrangements.
As in the past, attendance at the meeting is limited to two representatives per boat. Only boats that have paid their 2011 dues are eligible to vote, and there is only one vote per boat. Those in arrears can pay their dues at the meeting.
I’ve had a quick chat with Andrew and I can promise that he and Evan have an interesting initiative or two up their sleeves. It should be an interesting session, so come on out.
